Summer Reading 2013

As my Spring Fling Reading is over, I am now going to keep the diary for the books I am reading without the  group incentive :-) I've read 13 books in the spring, how many can I read this summer?
For my last assignment I had to say what books I plan on reading, for this one I am just going to add the books when I am reading it! These are my rules! You can join me if you want, just let me know you are reading, link your blog to mine, let me know you did and give me your blog address and I'll add it to my blog...easy, peasy, and no rush or pressure!

For my first book I am going to read one more book I took out of the HS library:

When we Wake by Karen Healey If you want to know more about this book click on the authors name! (starting to read June 21st) (finished.June 23, it's worth a read!...)

11th Hour by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro a friend lend it to me ages ago. I think I better read it now and see where we are going. I did read some books in this series, but I believe they can be read by themselves...we'll see :-) (starting to read June 23 finished June 26th)

Hide in Plain Sight by Marta Perry a book set in the Amish country, Lancaster PA, mostly you can figure out what is going to happen, but it still is a mystery and I didn't figure out who was behind all the troubles until almost the end, and then it surprised me. A really good book, and one I was able to finish in two days :-) (finished June 29, 2013)

Finding Infinity by Susan Kiernan-Lewis (starting 6-29-2013) Finished July 2nd! My Review http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13540529-finding-infinity

Accidental Seal by Sharon Hamilton (finished July 11th) My Review: Not a great book! http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15715864-accidental-seal

Fools Rush In (Weddings by Bella #1) by
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6433344-fools-rush-in

Changing My Wardrobe by Deb Hanrahan is my next book. I am going to start reading it today (July 15). It is another free book on my Kindl :-)

No review from me yet, but here you can find it. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11452353-changing-my-wardrobe

Spring Into Reading 2013

Well, it seems our challenge is over :-( I did start with 5 books on my list, and I read 3 of those, but I also kept adding books and was given books to read in between...so I read 13 and am reading one right now...I might yet finish it tonight :-) Below you find all the books listed and highlighted in dark yellow when I read it. The two blue highlighted books I either will read before I go on vacation or I'll take either one of them along to read.
I had fun reading all these books, liked some more and some less, but loved to be able to share them with you. I hope one or the other of you looks at my recommendations and maybe you find a book you just have to read!
I am looking forward to Fall Into Reading 2013, in the meantime I will start another log for myself and also will add books to Goodreads to keep up what all I have been reading...We'll see how many books I can read this year!

Hope to see you all again in a few month! Kirsten

Yes, I am going to read again...well, I always read, but I am going to keep up the posts here again...or so I plan!

Here is my list for the Spring Into Reading Group...as always I will be adding to this list as I find books to read and/or finish books on this list!

11th Hour by James Patterson (will take on vacation in July/August)
Schneewitchen muss Sterben by Nele Neuhaus (I hope it will be ok to list German books...they have to be read too) (might take on vacation in July/August)
Killing Kennedy by Bill O'Reilly  Finnished April 20, 2013, this is a must read for history buffs!
Tumbleweeds by Leila Meacham Finished April 6, 2013 wasn't as good as the first one :-(
Back to U by Kathy Dunnehoff (free e-book) Finished April 1, 2013

Updating:
I'm in the middle of a book I got for free on Amazon for Kindl Back To U by Kathy Dunnehoff  Finished in April...not a book to recommend :-) I did not like it very much.

Also on my list from the High School Library:
The Hanging Woods by Scott Loring Sanders (Reading right now June 20th) Finished June 21st! Well, this is an interesting book, but I would recommend it only for HS kids. There is much cursing going on, I don't really know where to begin. At first I thought about just putting the book down and not read it, but then I thought I better continue and give the librarian at the HS a heads up. Well, the book did suck me in! I wanted to know if the kids have a conscience or not, where the author was going to go with the story, and how he will solve it all. Well, I don't want to spoil it for you, but if you read it you will figure a few things out, have your suspicions on others, and might get surprised at the end. But do be aware of all the cursing...the f word is used quite often and it's a bit unbelievable to think the kids in the 60s where talking this way...
Mister Death's blue-eyed girl by Mary Downing Hahn Finished May 20th, 2013

And updating again:
Book I am reading for a book club I just joined The Traveler's Gift: Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success by Andy Andrews  Reading now! May 2nd still reading it! Finished May 18th, 2013

Update May 2nd:
Another book I picked up at work and have to read first: Rotten by Michael Northrob. As we have a Rottweiler and the face and name on the cover are so cute, I had to take it home and have to read it. Halfway through...and loving it. The author must have a Rotti or really studied about them as the characteristics of the dog are so on top! I am curious how it will evolve to the end. Yep, another childrens book! Junior Library Guild selection! Finnished May 3rd, 2013 Great book to read for upper middle school and lower high school levels...or whoever likes to read and would like something easy yet thoughtful.

Update May 10th:
Falling for You by Lisa Schroeder. We got this book from another school and I started to read a few pages at work. That made me take it home to read as it just starts to grab your attention. Great HS read for students who have some problems in life. It shows that there is a way out and we (especially students) should take care of each other. If students like poetry, this might be a good read as it has poems at the end of the chapters. Finnished May 10th, 2013

Now back to reading :-)

You can find me on GoodReads too :-)

Update May 26th:
Read The Good Daughter by Diana Layne, picked it up as a free download, and now I am reading the second: Trust No One by Diana Layne, another free book I picked up on the Kindl.Finished May 31

Update June 8th:
Read Wild : from lost to found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. My friend gave me this book, and I couldn't put it down. If you are looking for something else to read, get this book! I think it is the one book that will stay with me for a while.
From her website:
NATIONAL BESTSELLER

A Best Nonfiction Book of 2012: The Boston GlobeEntertainment WeeklyA Best Book of the Year: NPR, St. Louis DispatchVogue
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
Updating again! June 20th!
I found another book I just had to read, Janie Face to Face by Caroline B. Cooney #5 in the Face on the Milk Carton series. This book tells you about the kidnapper, why and how and what become of her, as well as what is happening with the grown up Janie...how is she fearing with her kidnapping and what will become of her, how can she put it all behind her, and how are her two sets of parents doing....
I had read all the other books  years ago and was fascinated by the story. When I saw this book on Monday I just had to bring it home and read it...so, two days later I am done with it :-) If you have read any of the previous books you just have to get this one also and read it. At the end Ms. Cooney also tells you why she wrote this series. Read June 19th, 2013

Also finished this book I got for free on the Kindl Black Butterflies (The Greek Village Series Book 2)  by Sara Alexi. I hadn't read the first one...if you like long drawn out romance with lots of repetion...go for this one, otherwise, skip it :-) I won't be reading more in this series. Read June 17th

Hmmm...what else have I read in the last few weeks?

Just finished Girlfriend Material by Melissa Kantor another Texas Lone Star book. Don't think it ought to be on this list as the list is for 6-8 grade Students, we ought to have a list by grade :-) 8th graders probably find this book very entertaining and pertaining to their lives, 6th graders think it ought to be that way and will be disappointed in life. Oh, welll...

The Demon King  by Cinda Williams Chima; yep, TLSbook. Wow, not interested at first, but once you get sucked in you are sucked in!!! Read the book over the last week and didn't get very far, started to get into it Saturday morning, and read till 12:30 am, fell asleep sitting up so went to bed, got up at 6:30 am and finished the last 2 or 3 chapters. Now waiting for the next book. Hard to get into, but once it has you it keeps having turns in it! Follow the link and read the first chapter, but you'll be disappointed and will have to read more to get into it!

The Bull Rider  by Suzanne Morgan Williams  Oh, this is not what you think it is, and I did like this book, guess it might be the one I will like best of all the TLS this year. The main subject is not Bull Riding, and that is all I am going to say. I did give it to one of the students this week and asked her to tell me what she thinks, she came back a bit later stating she started reading it and liked it so far. It's an intriguing book for anyone to read. Far better lesson then the top book :-)

Killer Pizza by Greg Taylor if you like monsters, this is a book for you. Don't care for monsters, but this is an easy read and might be for the kiddos who don't like to read and want to be grossed out a bit.

Think that's all I read since Aug. 15 and  my last post :-)
Hang on for the next instalment coming soon! There are way too many books to read!

Taken

Beeing sick helps to finish a book quickly. Read Taken by Edward Bloor yesterday. Interesting book where its 2036 and it is very normal for children of rich parents to be kidnapped for ransom.

Books I have read in 2010!

Comfort Food - Kate Jacobs
Taken - Edward Bloor - juvenile fiction
Niner - Theresa Martin Golding - juvenile fiction
Princess Ben - Catherine Gilbert Murdock - Juvenile fiction...good book
Gabriel's Horses (Racing to Freedom Trilogy) - Allison Hart - a book about slavery, the Civil War, and Horse Racing

Comfort Food

Finished up a book yesterday! Yeah!!! I am trying to write them all down as soon as I read it...we'll see if that works. Plus I am going to have one list with all the books I read in 2010...one view of all of them...and how about a movie schedule too? Well, that might just be too much for me to handle...but we'll see!

Comfort Food: A Novel by Kate Jacobs

Praise for Comfort Food
"Kate Jacobs' breezy follow-up to her bestselling The Friday Night Knitting Club is a satisfying read that showcases Jacobs' skill in creating endearingly flawed characters… the kind of book you rush home to finish. "

– USA Today

"Gus and the show's cast, with their humor, moods, and romance, are the sparks that bring this warm and irresistible story to life. Highly recommended."

– Library Journal

"Lighthearted."

– Kirkus Reviews

"Comfort Food is good for the heart and soul."

– BookPage

My review: I liked it. Romance, cooking, family, stress, just real life (plus a bunch of...can you believe this). It is an easy to read book by the author of "Friday Night Knitting Club" which I read a year or two ago. There is a sequel to FNKC and I guess that's the next one I need to get. - this is not a kids book (this is for Jason who thinks that's all I am reading), but it also doesn't have blood and guts spilling all over, but some good competition between two extreme cabable women.
